DR. DANIJELA POLJUHA

Welcome to my webpage!

I am a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism in Poreč, Croatia, where I work as Head of the Genetic Laboratory and project manager.

My current research interests are focused on a few areas related to Mediterranean plants, including the application of molecular markers in the conservation and management of horticultural genetic resources, and also the antioxidant capacity of autochthnous Croatian plant foods, baverages and oils.

I am also particularly devoted to the popularization of science, finding an inexhaustible source of inspiration in the conjunction of technology, science and art.

MY LATEST RESEARCH

Our very new interest include the application of lately attractive "multiactors and citizen science approach" in inventarization and monitoring of invasive species. We perform an inventory of A. altissima in urban and sub-urban area of city of Poreč (Croatia). Our results are published in Forests 2018, 9(1), 31; https://doi.org/10.3390/f9010031

CIV.JPG

Read more about our new Invasive Species Centre, established in 2017! The aim of CIV is to actively involve all relevant institutions in Porec and beyond, as well as children and citizens in the preservation of health and our unique and extremely valuable natural heritage.

The Olive (Olea europaea L.) is one of the oldest cultivated plants characteristic of the Mediterranean area, where it is the most important oil-producing crop. In our Lab we investigate genetic biodiversity of our olives, their population structure, and gene flows with the aim of assembling a core collection of Istrian (and Croatian) olive germplasm.

Lately, we involved figs and garlic in our research. Analyses are ongoing...

CROLIVE.JPG

CROLIVE is a standardised database of microsatellite profiles of main olive cultivars in Croatia. CROLIVE Database contains profiles of 38 accessions obtained by nine microsatellite markers and was established as a result of the two years VIP project "Database of Microsatellite Profiles of Croatian Olive Cultivars" implemented in the period 2015-2017.
